Description

Dive into Canadian history with this collection of stories featuring the War of 1812, the making of Canada’s Confederation, one of Alberta’s most deadly natural disasters, and the birth of the New Democratic Party. A great gift for teachers and lovers of history.

This collection includes 4 books: The Loxleys and the War of 1812, The Loxleys and Confederation, Frank, and 1st Legion of Utopia

The Loxleys and the War of 1812: The story follows the Loxleys, a Canadian family living in the Niagara peninsula as they’re torn apart by the American invasion of Canada in 1812, and the subsequent war that raged across both countries as British troops, Canadian militia, and First Nations warriors sought to thwart the expansionist plans of the American government.

The Loxleys and Confederation: The story begins in 1864 and follows the Loxleys, a Canadian family living in the Niagara peninsula. Under the threat once more of an American invasion and the cancellation of the Canadian-American Reciprocity Treaty, the Canadian Colonies look to unite. We trail the Loxleys on their journey to the Charlottetown Conference and witness the events that lead to the Dominion of Canada.

Frank: A historical mystery set in the tragedy of the Frank Slide, one of Canada’s deadliest natural disasters. Eve Lee is in a self-destructive spiral—her big plans for a new life in Frank have not at all turned out how she had planned. As Eve hits the bottom she’s forced to confront her expectations when her former lover disappears under questionable circumstances. But is there something sinister at play or is she simply being obsessive and self-centred? And will she be able to put her past behind her before she finds herself buried under it?

1st Legion of Utopia: The turmoil of the Great Depression galvanized Canadians to rise up and fight for improved labour conditions, social equality and universal healthcare. In the frontier city of Calgary, Holly Burnside and Brian Mah get involved with the founding of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, the first national party dedicated to the needs of workers and farmers.
