Description

Robbie Burns is one of the most well known and celebrated poets worldwide. However, little is ever written about the man’s sideline career as one of Scotland’s most renowned Witch Hunters.

The story asks what if the events of the narrative poem Tam o’ Shanter, Burns’ most famous work, were actually based on something that happened to Burns himself…

Burns takes the wrong road and ends up at a witches’ Sabbath. The hot-blooded poet is entranced by the dancing witches, but is saved from an eternity in hell by witch-hunters. So begins his witch-hunter training, as McKay and Meg struggle to keep him out of the clutches of demons, witches, and local farm girls.

Reviews

“Exceptional writing and fantastic art.”

– Rob Alexander, Rocky Mountain Outlook

“A fast-paced work of frantic imagination.”

– David Pollock, list.co.uk

Out just in time for Robbie Burns Day, fans of the Scot’s work will enjoy the fresh imagining in comic book form.”

– Tim Alamenciak, Toronto Star

I absolutely adored every single moment of this lovingly put together comic. You know those teenagers who glaze over when you bring up poetry? This is the book to give them. Call it a Burns Night bonus.”

– Antony Esmond, Down the Tubes

Who doesn’t love a creative take on history? And the dialogue is quite witty, while the illustrations of the otherworldly creatures were as gruesome as they should be.”

I’ve Read This

“This is a book that readers can have a conversation about. It is a wonderful story on a variety of levels and is one that lovers of Scotland, poetry and witch-hunters can agree upon. A tale of supernatural adventure for sure, to make sure you remember Tam o’Shanter’s mare in the 21st century. 5/5 stars.”

– John K. Kirk, Pop Mythology

Smart, action packed, skilfully suspenseful, uproariously funny, divinely irreverent and genuinely scary or sad by turn, Robbie Burns Witch Hunter is a gloriously compelling and truly mesmerising romp: a doom-laden, wisecracking rollicking love story no sensitive soul or jaded comics fan could possibly resist. It’s even educational too…”

– Win Wiacek, Now Read This

Few comics can seek to rewrite history with such love and devotion as this latest tale by Gordon Rennie and Emma Beeby…If you’re looking for high-octane action with an historical twist, you can’t go wrong with this book. Rennie and Beeby have crafted a story that expertly mixes the fear of the supernatural in post-Witchcraft trials Scotland with one of Burns’ most-loved supernatural poems. Trevallion’s excellent, highly atmospheric artwork is the icing on the cake. Read it, you won’t be disappointed.”

– Zoe Kirk-Robinson, Web Comics

Robbie Burns: Witch Hunter is definitely something a bit different and recommended to those that like something besides superheroes in their sequential art or have an interest in history and culture.”

– Andy Haigh, Geek Pride
