The 2023 Alberta Book Publishing awards were announced at a star studded gala in Edmonton. We were there, and pleasantly surprised as two of our books took home awards.
First up, King Warrior by Jay Bulckaert, Erika Nyyssonen & Lucas Green, won Graphic Novel of the Year! Congratulations to all the creators, editors and publishing personnel for the well deserved win. King Warrior is a wonderful story, beautifully illustrated. Available now from book and comic stores, libraries and our webstore. Congratulations to the other nominated graphic novels too, they all deserved the recognition.
Next up was Best Illustration, which was awarded to our anthology of short comic stories created by Alberta based creators ‘Alberta Comics: Home’. Edited by Shea Proulx, Emily Pomeroy & Alexander Finbow, Alberta Comics features 42 different stories, created by 61 different creators. The varied illustration styles presented in a well curated anthology is one of the wonderful aspects of the medium, and we were grateful to the award jurors for appreciating the wonderful illustrators in our province.
Are these the graphic novels you would have chosen? Are there other great Alberta graphic novels that we should read? Please let us know.
